In my spare time I enjoy going camping and hiking with my family. I love to quilt and take photographs that I can incorporate into my quilts. I am a DIYer and spend quite a bit of time working on my home and garden, as well as crafting and expressing my ideas in what ever direction they take!
It's the Thought that Counts 27" x 19"
This quilted wall hanging was made to celebrate a family member's 70th birthday. However, that birthday was in August and the wall hanging wasn't finished until 6 months later! When I presented the unfinished top to her I told her "You can't have it yet, so keep in mind, it is the thought that counts".
Pieced using fusible material, this wall hanging has machine thread painting and machine quilting.
Gram's Faces 38" x 24"
My quilt is called Gram's Faces and it was done in honor of my Grandmother. She had pansies that seeded themselves year-after-year right outside her front door. Every spring she loved showing us how each pansy "face" was different just like people are unique and individual.
Using my own photograph and working with it on my computer software gave me the initial pattern. After ironing fusible material to the back of the fabric, I then cut 3/4" squares and laid them out in the quilt design. After laying the top, batting and backing I added thread painting, machine quilting, and some bead work.
Fall Fiesta 90" x 72"
Awarded Amateur Honorable Mention - Innovative at PIQF in 2009 and First Place - Large Art Quit at 2008 Harvest Quilt & Fiber Arts Show. This quilt has raw edges and is attached with fusible material. It was finished with machine quilting and embroidery, and embellished with recycled product net bags.
Squeaker Rules 12" x 12"
Squeak was a wonderful fur person that had the sweetest disposition of any of our cats. I fused fabric together, added thread painting and netting (including produce bags) for texture, and then machine quilted and finished it with beaded whiskers.
Rick 30" x 40"
Created for the celebration of Rick's 70th birthday. He is retired from the navy and I used a photo of him in front of one if his figher jets. This piece has raw edges joined with fusible material. It was finished with free-hand machine embroidery and quilting.
Nametag Holder embellished using oil sticks, free form embroidery (lettering) and machine quilting. Deciding to challenge myself, I wanted to create a nametag holder for each meeting month (of our Quilt Association) as a way to experient with different technics. Beginning with February, I used a heart shape to play off Valentine's Day. I started with a pattern by Mary Berthiaume and modified it to give me extra space to try something different!
Summer Sunburst (in process) will be 120" x 72"
